When something feels off in our lives, we usually know what it is. If we ask ourselves a few questions – we really know what it is that does not feel quite loving and wonderful. Maybe it is something we are doing or not doing. Maybe it is beyond our control.
Whatever is behind our feelings of unease, we usually have a good idea of what it is. And we do not need to be told what we are doing “wrong.” We do not need others to point out what the problem is. Pointers are just not usually helpful.
What we do need is kindness and compassion. We can ask others to be kind, but we cannot make them. When others are not willing to stop pointing, we can still give ourselves kindness and compassion. We can embrace the fact that we are doing our best and always have been.
And when we see others who are challenged or struggling in some way, we can be sure not to be pointers. Instead we can ask if there is anything we can do to help. We can be the loving change we would like to see when we treat others the way we would like to be treated.
