We have heard a lot about keeping gratitude journals over the years.  We know it is awesome to be grateful – when we are grateful we are focused on the things we love and whatever we are focused on is what we see more of.  But keeping a gratitude journal might seem like a daunting task.

We do not have to actually have a notebook to keep a gratitude journal.  I like to use Instagram to make note of things I am grateful for.  You can use a notepad on your phone or computer.  You can get a gratitude buddy and send an email.  You can use a chalkboard or whiteboard in your office and be reminded all day.  You can use colorful markers on construction paper.  You can draw pictures instead of write if you like.

It is best to make it a habit and to do it at the same time everyday.  A lot of people like to do it at the end of the day.  I like to find what I am grateful for in the middle of my day – it is a great pick-me-up.  Even taking the time once or twice a week to record our gratitude can be very helpful for us.

Be specific about what you are grateful for and why you are grateful for it.  A list of nice things is nice, but maybe not as meaningful as really exploring why you are grateful.

Remember this is not just one more thing on your to-do list.  This is an amazing opportunity to reflect on the things you love about you life.  Have fun with it.
