We often hear the advice to make a gratitude list, keep a gratitude journal, or to simply take time out of our day to be grateful. Why?
When we consciously take time out of our day to be grateful, we are looking for things to be grateful for. When we are looking for something, expecting something – we often get it. We usually get what we are focused on. We often get what we think about the most.
That can be wonderful – or not so wonderful, when we are focused on things that are not so great. When we are focused on challenges, we often see more challenges. Gratitude helps us stay focused on things we want to see in our lives.
When we are looking for things to be grateful for – to put on our gratitude list – we will find wonderful things to be grateful for. When we find wonderful things to be grateful for – it can change our whole lives.
It may be small, like the peach jam on your toast in the morning, pretty flowers that you pass on a walk – or it can be big, like a job opportunity we are presented with. But if we are watching for things to be grateful for through our days, we will find them. Living gratefully, purposely taking time to be grateful every day will bring us more things to be grateful for. And that can be life changing.
