“Wash the plate not because it’s dirty nor because you’re told to wash it, but because you love the person who’ll use it next.” ~ Mother Teresa
We usually talk about self-love here and how to have it. Today I would like to talk about helping others – and how great that can feel. When we are mindfully helping others, it can also help us. It can help us to have more joy and love in our lives. It can help us feel amazing about ourselves. Helping others can contribute to our own self-love.
We can help others in so many ways. We can give someone a ride. We can make a healthy meal for someone who is not feeling well. We can volunteer at our favorite charity. There are countless ways to help. We can always find something to do for others.
What I would like to focus on this weekend is helping out those who are physically closest to us. The people we live or work with. The people we see daily. The ones we so often take for granted. And yes, the ones who so often take us for granted.
Let’s think of something that would help lift the spirits of someone close to us. Let’s take them out for a walk or a movie, or to a place they enjoy. Let’s give them an extra hug. Let’s really listen when they are talking. Let’s make dinner a little special and get out the candles.
Let’s do something nice for someone near. Not because we want them to be grateful – but just because it feels really, really good for us.
