What can we learn when we talk to people who appear to be different than us?
I overheard a wonderful conversation in a restaurant recently. There was a table of young adults who were talking about visiting a nearby town. An older couple heard them from a nearby table and chimed in. Now these two groups were vastly different in appearance, but once the older couple started sharing secret gems of the town the young people wanted to visit, they all perked up and got involved in the conversation.
Pretty soon they were all sitting at the same table. The older couple shared what they knew about the town and the younger adults asked a lot of questions – and learned a lot.
What can we learn from people who look a little different from us? We can be guided by perfect strangers if we keep an open mind. We can learn all kinds of great stuff when we venture outside of our comfort zones. Give it a try.
